An alleged gangster associated with Lyari gang war don Uzair Jan Baloch was killed in an encounter with police in Nawa Lane on Saturday.
SHO Ayaz Khan of Kalakot Police Station said that an informer had told police that Ghulam Nabi alias Gullu, son of Ghulam Qadir, and two others members of the Uzair Jan Baloch gang had arrived in the area for carrying out a criminal activity.
A police party soon reached Nawa Lane to make arrests, but the suspects opened fire on them.
The police responded and killed Gullu. A TT pistol, three megazines and eight rounds were said to have been found on the deceased.
Gullu’s two accomplices managed to escape from the spot under cover of heavy gunfire.
The dead body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a postmortem examination, after which it was handed over to heirs for burial.
The SHO said the victim was a key commander of the Uzair Baloch gang and lived in the Patel Para area on Jahangir Road.
