CHITRAL: Speakers at a workshop on Thursday called for strictly implementing the buildings code in construction of school buildings to ensure safety of the schoolchildren.
Network of Disaster Management Practitioner (NDMP) in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) had organised the event. The workshop was aimed at identifying 34 state-run schools for boys and girls for running an awareness campaign regarding natural calamities.
Assistant Commissioner Abdul Akram was the chief guest on the occasion. He said children were the future of the country and providing them protection in educational institutions was responsibility of the government.
The speakers said that school buildings and children were affected the most by the 2005 earthquake in the district. The said the area was prone to natural calamities and no compromise should be made on buildings code there.
District education officers Mumtaz Muhammad and Zubaida Khanum informed the participants about the damaged caused to schools in natural disasters in the district.
