Rain, hailstorm hit isolated places in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Rain and hailstorm hit isolated places in the provincial capital and elsewhere in the district, damaging the standing crop of wheat in the plain areas. The rain coupled with hailstorm started at about 4pm in parts of the provincial capital, including the cantonment, University Road, Hayatabad.

However, the city localities, including the Surey Pull area where Met Offices and weather observatory station are located didn't receive any hailstorm. The rain and hailstorm varied in the city localities and in some places around seven millimeter (mm) rain was recorded, but the Met observatory recorded only 3 mm rain.

Mushtaq Ali Shah, director, regional Met Office, said they had their sole observatory in the main office in the back of the Radio Pakistan where only 3 mm rain was recorded. Similarly, the Met Office also reported rain and thunderstorm at isolated places in Peshawar, Hazara, Malakand and Dera Ismail Khan divisions and Kurram Agency. It recorded 1mm rain in Kakul, 8mm in Parachinar, 05 mm in Pattan in Kohistan, 7mm in Kalam, Swat.
