This refers to the article, ‘Border manangement’ (Mar 25) by Saleem Safi. The long porous border of 2,450 kilometres that Pakistan shares with Afghanistan has remained a bone a contention between the two countries since a long time. A minor exchange of harsh words from either side results in the closure of the border, without any consideration given to the loss of trade. Russia shares its border with 16 countries and China shares its border with 14 countries. If these two nations can manage their multiple borders diplomatically then Pakistan can also do so.
The government of both countries should single out the problem and then resolve all tensions diplomatically. All the refugees should be given computerised cards and all the non-refugees should be granted visas. It is time to forget about the past and work together to eradicate the menace of terrorism.
