President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday stressed the need for the provision of quality education to the youths, especially in the fields of engineering and science and technology, to create a pool of skilled manpower in the country, and said it would strengthen national economy.

He said this while chairing the first meeting of the Senate of the NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology (NFC IET), Multan, at the Aiwan-i-Sadr here. The president said the universities should equip themselves with modern facilities, maintain high standard of education, and upgrade its infrastructure in line with the needs of the current times to provide friendly atmosphere to the students to enable them to excel in their relevant fields for national development and progress.

He said no nation without skilled human resource could progress and prosper and carve out a niche in the comity of nations. The president said he was hopeful that the holding of the first senate meeting would streamline the affairs of the engineering institute.

He said he was confident that the institute would further grow with the regular consultations and in light of vast experience of its senate members. The president called for regularly organising the senate meetings to resolve the institute’s issues and plan and execute a way forward on how to turn it into a centre of excellence.  The participants approved the budget of the NFC IET for 2017-18 and two years extension in the services of the institute’s vice chancellor. They also discussed the institute’s academic, administrative, financial and security matters and took necessary decisions.
