Over 135 Afghans among 475 suspects held in KP
67 arrested in Kohistan search

PESHAWAR: During the ongoing search and strike operation throughout the province, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police rounded up 226 suspects and 78 unregistered Afghans in Peshawar and another 253 suspects and 59 Afghans from other districts of the province on Monday.
According to the Peshawar Police, search and strike operations were carried out in different parts of the city, during which 253 suspects were held and arms of different bore were recovered from them.
According to another press release of the Central Police Office, a number of operations were carried out all over the province, during which 522 houses and 249 hotels were searched and 60 cases were registered against the violators of the Tenant Act.
During snap checking at 128 checkpoints, 193 suspects were held. Besides, 59 Afghans were detained for not having documents to legalise their stay. During the operation, security inspection of 1,162 educational institutions was also carried out and various institutions were advised to beef up security arrangements.
Our correspondent from Mansehra adds: Kohistan Police claimed to have arrested 67 local and Afghan nationals during search in the district on Monday.A police official said that the arrests were made following reviewing the previous criminal records of suspects.He said that Afghan nationals were arrested for staying in the area illegally.
He said that the security had been tightened in the district after the terrorists attack on Army Public School in Peshawar.Our correspondent from Landikotal adds: The security forces raided several residential compounds in Landikotal bazaar and arrested five suspected persons, sources said on Monday.
The sources said that the security forces conducted search and clearance operation in Landikotal bazaar and residential areas.Five suspected persons, said to be Afghan nationals, were arrested and shifted to Landikotal Army Garrison.
Our correspondent from Charsadda adds: The police on Monday claimed to have arrested three accused, who shot and killed five persons during a jirga in Sardaryab two days ago, and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.
An official of the Prang Police Station, Imran Khan, told the reporters that acting on a tip-off, the police during an action on Charsadda Motorway Interchange arrested the accused Akhtarzeb, Said Ali Shah and Sheheryar.He said the police also recovered three Kalashnikovs, a stain gun and hundreds of cartridges from them.
