Rehman makes an ace to revive title hopes

Asad I.A Khan wins seniors crown in Sindh Amateur Golf

KARACHI: Muhammad Rehman on Saturday gave himself a chance to take a shot at the title when he made a hole-in-one on his way to a spectacular round of four-under 68 in the 17th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship here at the Karachi Golf Club.

After a mediocre round of 75 on the opening day, Rehman bounced back with a vengeance as he made three birdies, an eagle on hole 2 and finally sealed the best round of the day with an ace on hole 11.

But despite his second round heroics, Rehman remains a long shot to win the coveted Sindh amateur crown as he still trails Peshawar’s Taimur Khan by five strokes going into the final round on Sunday.

Taimur was in his element on the opening day when he fired a stunning round of seven-under 65 in the event hosted by Sindh Golf Association (SGA). On Saturday, he carded 73 in the second round for an aggregate of 138 (-6). Rehman is second on the leader-board with 143 followed by defending champion Zohaib Asif who had rounds of 73 and 72 for an aggregate of 145. He is tied with Sajid Khan (145).

Another under-par round of the day came from Ahmed Baig (71) who has an aggregate of 148. He is tied with Mansoor Teli who played 76 on Saturday.

Saim Shazli and Secretary KGC Commander Majid Satti are both tied at 149. Satti fired 75 in the second round. M Sharif shot a poor 79 for an aggregate of 149.

In the seniors’ category, President SGA Asad I.A Khan won the crown with scores of 73 and 78. He won by three strokes beating his cousin Omar Khan Bangash who scored 78. Sajid Sharif who carded 78 was second runner-up. In net category Ahmed Jameel Siddiqui (-5) won the title. The runner-up net was Arshad Altaf and second runner-up was Col Mansoor Akram.

In the juniors’ category, Danyal Khan with scores of 78 and 81 won the under-14 title. Yashal Shah 83 and 83 was second, Omar Khalid was third with 79 and 88. The net winner was Sameer Saeed with 134 and the runner-up was Ammar Piracha.

In the under-18 category, Junaid Irfan retained the title after scoring 80 and 75. The runner-up was Nadir Khan with cards of 82 and 90. The winner net in this category was Shayan Amin while the runner-up was Hamza Gheewala.
