Taimur Khan takes pole position in Sindh Amateur Golf

KARACHI: Peshawar’s Taimur Khan on Friday tamed the imposing Karachi Golf Club (KGC) course when he shot a stunning round of seven-under par 65 to take a five-shot lead in the 17th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship.

Taimur, who is fast making his bones as one of the most consistent amateurs in the country, played a bogey-free round as he made seven birdies to take the pole position on the leader-board. He made birdies on holes 2,4,5,11,12,14 and 18.

Five shots off the pace was West Wind Golf Club’s Muhammad Sharif who carded a round of two-under 70 to take the second place on the leader-board.

KGC’s Mansoor Teli made five birdies on his way to a par round of 72 to take the third place. Defending champion Zohaib Asif was on the fourth place with 73 that included four birdies. Arabian Sea Country’s Club’s Sajid Khan also finished with 73.

At 74 is KGC’s Secretary Commander Majid Satti, who played his best golf round so far. Lahore Garrison’s M Saqib is also at 74. Royal Palm’s Muhammad Rehmani Mani is tied with DHA’s Qazi Amir Hussain at 75. Saim Shazli and Waqas Burki are at 76. Friday saw disappointing rounds from Ahmed Baig and Ashiq Hussain (77).

West Winds’ M Naveed is at 78. KGC’s Arslan Shikoh is at 79 followed by Nasrullah Sheikh at 80 and Ziad Khan 81.

In the seniors’ category, President SGA Asad I.A Khan leads the pack with a superb round of 73. After playing a par round on the front nine, Asad played one-over on the back nine. He had two bogies and a birdie on hole 14. KGC’s former captain Sohail Kareem Rana is at 78 along with Ahmed Jamil Siddiqi. They are closely followed by Captain Azhar Iqbal at 79. Col Mansoor of DHA is at 80 and Arshad Altaf and Khalid Jamil Siddiqi at 82 and Sajid Sharif at 83.

In the masters’ category, Danyal Khan (78) and Omar Khalid (79) were placed at the top of the leader-board.
