A day to remember

By our correspondents
March 23, 2017

Every year, the country celebrates ‘Pakistan Day’ on March 23 with zeal and enthusiasm. The day marks the anniversary of the resolution calling for the Muslim nation to stand united and demand a separate independent state. It was the day when the Muslims of the Subcontinent decided to break free from the British Raj. If we look back at the memories of the day, we can easily conclude that unfortunately we have failed to turn the dream of ‘an independent and secure state’ into reality.

The country came into being so that each one of its citizen can live a peaceful life. To date, we have not even come close. The country is dangling between the internal and external threats. Poverty, corruption and terrorism are a few internal threats that have destabilised the country to a great extent. To add more to it, some external elements are also sabotaging the country’s attempts to become a developed state. The country’s current state is worrisome. Although it is a nuclear state, it is still facing the water and energy crises. We should ask ourselves this question: What have we achieved so far? Today, we should pledge to our country to be honest and loyal, and work tirelessly for its development.

March 23, 1940 is known as ‘Pakistan Day’ throughout the world. It was the day when our leaders decided to demand a separate state. Our leaders gave us the greatest present – Pakistan. This day reminds us to work with more dedication for the country’s development. We should join hands to fight terrorism. We should believe that the country has a lot of potential and that it can become a developed state if efforts are made in the right direction.

What is required is to seed positive thoughts among the young generation. We have to raise awareness campaigns and tell the youth that the country can be turned into a gold if they work towards its betterment. This will help the country retain its talent. Pakistan is our country. We should own it. Long live Pakistan.
