Another MQM MPA defects to PSP
On the eve of the first anniversary of the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), another Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member provincial assembly (MPA) defected to the former city mayor-led party.
During a news conference on Wednesday, MQM MPA Sheikh Abdullah announced that he had decided to join the PSP of his own free will and that he was not pressurised into making the move.
Flanked by PSP Chairman Mustafa Kamal and President Anis Qaimkhani, Abdullah told the media at Nishtar Park that he regretted his three-decade-long association with MQM founder Altaf Hussain.
“We understand now that we were being used by the MQM chief, and I apologise to our voters. Hussain’s August 22 [anti-national] speech was an eye-opener for us, and we don’t want to be remembered as traitors to the country.”
Abdullah said that after the news conference, he would submit his resignation to the Sindh Assembly Secretariat.
“Although my only earning is from the provincial legislature, God is great and has promised everyone their bread and butter.”
He was elected from the PS-97 (Karachi-IX) constituency on the MQM’s ticket and was also the unit incharge for the party’s Gulshan-e-Maymar sector.
Kamal welcomed him to the PSP and reiterated that people were joining the party because of their policies and not because they were pressurised into jumping ship.
