Karachi’s investment potential too good to be ignored, says governor
Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair has said no international company could ignore the conducive atmosphere and massive potential offered by Karachi for doing investment and business.
He stated so as he met and addressed a delegation comprising participants of Air War Course 2017 at the Governor House on Friday.
The 45-member delegation comprised senior officials of Pakistani and foreign armed forces.
The governor said Karachi was the economic hub of the country, and everyone concerned was under an obligation on a foremost basis to make efforts so that the metropolitan city could secure an important position on the world economic map.
Zubair said the law and order in Pakistan, especially Karachi, was far better now as compared to what it had been in 2013. An increase in foreign investment, as well as improvement political, social and economic activities, was being noticed by all Karachiites and the fear factor had disappeared, he said.
He was of the view that the common man had been affected by the law and order situation in Karachi and all activities had halted due to unfavourable conditions there, but members of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) had rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the restoration of peace and tranquility to Karachi and the city was gradually regaining its past glory.
The governor said continuous training and refresher courses for personnel of LEAs were of immense importance as they not only enhanced their capabilities but also prepared them for the ever-changing challenges of national security.
He described Karachi as the economic hub of Pakistan, saying any activity there directly affected the country’s economy. After maintenance of law and order in Karachi, the city’s potential and favourable investment opportunities needed to by unearthed by local and global investors, he said.
He said that due to the policies of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the economy of Pakistan was improving.
Sindh would also benefit from China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPECT) projects, especially the in energy sector, he said.
Zubair termed the CPEC a game changer for not only Pakistan but also the entire region. As many as $62 billion projects were in the pipeline for the CPEC, of which almost $34 billion projects were in the power sector, he said.
The governor said there was a shortfall of around 5,000 megawatts in the country, and, after the completion of the power sector projects next year, there would be 10,400 megawatts of more electricity available to the national grid.
He said he was in contract with every political party of the province so as to work jointly for ensuring an accelerated pace of development in Sindh. He pledged to continue the operation till its logical end to get rid of the remaining terrorists.
He said Operation Raddul Fassad would yield the desired results. The participants of the delegation enquired about the political situation, the measures taken for ensuring peace, and the constitutional role and responsibilities of the governor.
