‘Special persons need special attention’

Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen has said that people with disabilities are being neglected in our society and added special persons in fact needed special attention.
Addressing an awareness walk organised by Centre for Clinical Psychology and Institute for Applied Psychology at PU New Campus on Wednesday, the VC said special persons were integral part of our society and it was our obligation to help them. He also said special persons were taken care of in civilised societies and added it was our social responsibility to facilitate special persons and we must utilise our energies in such good deeds. He said PU was taking a leading role in performing its social responsibility.
Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof Dr Naeem Khan, Centre for Clinical Psychology and Institute of Applied Psychology’s Director Prof Dr Farah Malik, faculty members and a large number of students participated in the walk. The participants were holding banners and placards inscribed with awareness slogans for improving conditions of special persons. The students had also set up awareness stalls and distributed pamphlets among the participants. Prof Dr Naeem Khan said special persons must be brought to mainstream and we must look after them. Later, the participants of the rally reached Gate No 2 and distributed awareness pamphlets among motorists.
New block: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir Wednesday inaugurated newly-built block at botanical garden, New Campus. In this regard, a ceremony was held at botanical garden. Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof Dr Naeem Khan, Chairperson Department of Botany Prof Dr Firdous-e-Barin, senior faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
According to a press release, addressing the ceremony, Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said that PU administration would take measures to beautify botanical garden and make it one of the most beautiful botanical gardens. He said the university must do research which could serve our community and PU administration would encourage positive activities on the campus. Dr Firdous-e-Barin gave a detailed briefing on the history, programmes and research work of the department.
