Recently, the SC CJ ordered the Utility Store Corporation (USC) to destroy substandard ghee and oil stocks. The USC Corporation is being run by the production and industries ministry. I wonder how a government-run corporation may keep substandard ghee and oil? A long time back, the Ghee Corporation of Pakistan was responsible for ensuring the good quality oil and ghee. On every tin of ghee and oil, a logo was embossed that indicated that the ghee and/or oil was of good quality. This indicates that the logo of Pakistan Standard and Quality Authority was mandatory.
Substandard ghee and oil may cause serious health issues. Ghee prepared by poor quality fats affects digestive system as well increases the risk of heart diseases. If poor quality ghee is sold at utility stores, it could be potentially hazardous to health and should be stop immediately. It is commendable that the SC intervened on time. The federal government should also order an inquiry into why poor quality and substandard ghee is being sold. Those who are responsible should be dealt with accordingly.
