20,000 schools to get solar panels, says Punjab CM
LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said 20,000 schools will be provided with solar energy and it is being started from schools of South Punjab.
The chief minister presided over a meeting, here Monday to review implementation and different affairs of Khadim-e-Punjab Ujala Programme. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said 20,000 schools will be illuminated with solar energy under this programme and it is being started from schools of South Punjab. He said this programme will be implemented in phases and completed by the end of current year. He said a comprehensive survey for the provision of solar panels to schools deprived of electricity should be completed at the earliest.
He said the decisions regarding implementation of programme should be fully implemented. The committee headed by Punjab chief secretary should review implementation programme every week, he said, adding that priority should be given to make functional those schools without electricity. He said that work would be carried out vigorously for the implementation of the project. The government had set up 100 megawatt solar power plant from its own resources at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, Bahawalpur, he added.
