Protestagainst ghost teachers

NAWABSHAH: The residents of a village near Nawabshah staged a protest against the absence of teachers in their school and refused the polio team to administer polio drops to the village children. However, the police on the complaint of the team of health department arrested four villagers and took them into their custody.

The residents of village Wazir Hussain interrupted the polio team in administering polio drops and said that teachers posted in their school were not performing their duties. The villagers said that the sole teacher of Government Primary School had retired two months back and since then the school was closed. They said that the Department of Education was informed many a times but to no avail.

They said that the assistant commissioners and other officials conducted raids on schools but failed to bring teachers to work due to which school going children were roaming around free or working in fields, causing serious damage to their futures. On the other hand, villagers hindering the polio team work were arrested on the complaint of the Health Department. The arrested villagers were identified as Imdad Mehar, Ghulam Nabi Mehar, Ghulam Hussain Mehar and Manzoor Mehar. They were moved to the Qazi Ahmed Police Station.

Later, the residents of village Wazir Hussain staged a protest in front of the Qazi Ahmed Police Station and chanted slogans. They vowed that more than 200 children were deprived of their legitimate right to get good education. They said that ghost teachers were marking their weekly and monthly attendance in the biometric system with the help of employees of the Education Department. They said that these ghost teachers were involve in journalism and working with political parties. They again vowed to resist anti-polio drops’ drive till teachers were posted in their school.
