The Climate Change Ministry has evolved a multi-dimensional strategy to implement Green Pakistan Programme aiming at increasing tree cover in the country.
According to an official document submitted to the Prime Minister House, the strategy would focus on tree plantation along road and canal sides; rehabilitation and re-stocking of historical plantations; increase in green cover of mangrove forests; and conservation and enhancement in Juniper and 'Chilghoza' forests.
The strategy would also focus on watershed and soil conservation in hilly and river catchment areas; rehabilitation of ‘Guzara’ and protected areas; protection and augmentation of dry temperate forests; and promotion of forestry through utilizing corporate social responsibility resources.
According to it, the government would support communication measures and enhance capacity of the provincial forestry and wildlife departments to promote natural resource management and bio-diversity.
The Ministry of Climate Change would also soon launch a comprehensive campaign to create awareness among masses for making concerted efforts to protect and revive forestry and wildlife resources.
