Prize distribution ceremony held at FG Postgraduate College for Women

To commend the consistent efforts of students who excelled in academics and co-curricular activities during the session 2015-2017, the Annual Prize Distribution of FG Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road was held in the Salma Masud Auditorium on Thursday.

Brigadier Dr. Muhammad Asif Iqbal, Director FGEI (C/G) was the chief guest on this occasion. Lt. Col Saadataullah, GSO-I, Rwp Cantt and principals of different colleges of Rawalpindi region were also invited in this ceremony. The ceremony started with the recitation of Quranic verses by Iqra Rauf. Hadia Khalil presented 'naat'. College anthem was sung by Sajar, Surayya and Hannah.

College Principal, Mrs. Rana Arshad Qazi in her address highlighted the glorious traditions and excellent results of the college which has produced countless distinguished females over the years. This prestigious alma mater, only in the last decade, was thrice declared "The Best Institution" by FBISE and seven times the Overall Best Institution of FGEI(C/G). She presented a brief synopsis of the college results in Punjab University and Federal Board Exams 2016. 

In co-curricular activities during the session 2016-2017 the college students participated in Qirat, Naat, English / Urdu debates, drama, quiz, Mushaira, Home Economics, Computer Science and Fine Arts competitions and won overall 38 first prizes, 25 second prizes, 22 third prizes, 8 consolation prizes, thus making a total of 101 individual prizes, 3 cash award and 8 trophies in all.

A special segment on this occasion was an Urdu play "Chanaar jal rahey hain" to express our solidarity with our Kashmiri brethren. Indian atrocities have remained unsuccessful in suppressing the heroic struggle, dedication and commitment of Kashmiries for freedom, generation after generation. The play won a great deal of applause. Sajar and group presented the famous Kashmiri national song to enlighten the audience.

After this, the chief guest Brig. Dr. Muhammad Asif Iqbal, Director FGEI (C/G) distributed prizes and certificates among the high achievers in academics and co-curricular activities for their meritorious performance.  An exceptionally brilliant student Nimra Tariq of B.Sc (Zoology, Botany Group) bagged three subject prizes in English (Comp), Botany and Psychology and also secured second position in her group. An equality talented student Salma Babar stood first in B.A (Humanities) and clinched three subject prizes in Education, Arabic and Islamiyat (Comp).  Another bright star Summaya secured first position in B.Sc (Zoology, Botany Group) and won prizes in Psychology and English (Comp).

Sabira Hafeez stood third in B.Sc (Maths, Physics Group) and secured prizes in Maths and Economics. Another star student Anwer Sultana secured second position in B.A. and got prizes in Persian and Arabic. In intermediate results an exceptionally brilliant student Hira Amjad topped Pre-Medical group and also secured subject prizes in Biology and English (Comp).

Mushayyada Fatima also won laurels by securing second position in the same group and receiving prizes in Chemistry and Physics. Ambreen Raza, a highly promising student, got first position in Pre-Medical and bagged third prizes in Biology, Chemistry and Pak. Studies. Maryam Noor, stood first in Pre-Engg (Evening Shift) and clinched two subject prizes in Maths and Physics. Shumaila Bibi secured first position in General Science group (Evening Shift).

The chief guest, Brig. Dr. Muhammad Asif Iqbal in his address to the students highlighted the role of FGEI to ensure Quality Education in all its institutions that helps the young people in developing a sense of direction in life. "Education is a blessing", he said which enables an individual to think objectively and observe the world critically. Its process is a two way communication, whereby the teacher and the pupil complement one another. 

He also announced a cash prize of Rs10,000 for Dramatic Club of College on their outstanding performance in the Kashmir Play. Later he was presented College Insignia by the Principal.  The solemn ceremony ended with the recitation of National Anthem.
