Factory fire claims life

LAHORE

A 17-year-old youth was burnt alive when a fire erupted at a textile mill due to unknown reason in the Sundar police limits on Wednesday.

The youth has been identified as Salman, son of Ghulam Mohammad of Manga Mandi. Cotton and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees were also burnt. Seven fire tenders of Rescue 1122 responded to the incident within seven minutes and controlled the fire. 

Firefighters said the fire had erupted at Asia Textile factory situated on Multan Road near Manga Mandi at around 5:14am due to unknown reason. As a result, the cotton bails caught fire. The factory was filled with thick smoke. The victim died due to suffocation and burn injuries. Police have removed the body to morgue. 

gamblers held: Racecourse police claimed to have arrested nine gamblers and recovered stake money from them.The arrested accused persons have been identified as Imran, Rehmat, Sadaqat, Shakil, Wasim, Nisar, Afzaal, Hussain and Ajmal. Police recovered nine mobile phones, LCDs, a laptop and Rs55,000 cash from the accused persons. FIR has also been registered. Meanwhile, Racecourse Police recovered 1,070gram chars during an operation against drug peddler Adeel. 

killed:  A 28-year-old man was killed by a speeding van in the Baghbanpura area on Wednesday.

Victim Haroon was going on a bike when a rashly-driven van hit and injured him near Sukh Nehar. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.  Police have removed the body to morgue.

ACCIDENTS: Around 664 road traffic accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which eight lives were lost and 501 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts and tehsils. However, some 210 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after provision of first aid by Emergency Medical Teams.
