ABBOTTABAD: A meeting of the executive body of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) is likely to be convened soon to discuss the issue of the military courts.
SCBA President Fazal-e-Haq Abbasi said this while talking to journalists at his chamber on Thursday. He said the executive committee meeting would decide the future strategy for dealing with current scenario created after the setting up of the military courts.
The bar chief said the lawyer community never supported martial law and military courts. Establishment of these courts was in fact a sort of mistrust in the judiciary which will not be accepted, he stressed.Abbasi said the SCBA wanted improvement in the judicial system. For this, he added, all the pillars of state would have to work according to the mandate given by the Constitution.
The SCBA president remarked that being citizens of Pakistan, lawyers too were concerned about the terrorism and loss of innocent lives. We want an end to terror and violence for ever but the issue should be tackled and dealt with constitutionally, he stressed.
