TEVTA apprentices increased

TECHNICAL Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) is playing a vital role in promoting the Apprenticeship Training Scheme across the province of the Punjab. The strength of on roll apprentices has been increased from 5,984 to 12,871 during the last four years. During the last financial year, 1,366 new check surveys were conducted, 57 new industrial units were notified, 60 industrial units were registered, 4,860 inspections were carried out and 11,426 apprentices were recruited by the industries.
This was stated by Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Shaikh while addressing a meeting to review the progress of the Apprenticeship Training Scheme, according to a press release issued on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Chief Operating Officer TEVTA Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, General Manager Operations Hamid Ghani Anjum, Director Apprenticeship Training Scheme Waheed Asghar and other officers at TEVTA Secretariat the other day.
Irfan Qaiser Shaikh said the strength of on roll apprentices had been increased more than double which was a great achievement. TEVTA has shown a considerable growth regarding promotion and development of the Apprenticeship Training Scheme in Punjab. The AT scheme has been implemented in the industries through Regional Directorates of Apprenticeship Trainings (RDATs) located at Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, and Sialkot. All these offices are centrally monitored by AT Wing at TEVTA Secretariat.
The RDATs are assigned targets regarding different activities on six-monthly basis. As a result of target oriented activities, the number of industrial units operating the scheme has been increased to 1,084 in Punjab. Similarly, a number of averting industries has been reduced from 223 to 180. It can be further reduced if the industry will not face energy crisis and allied issues.
Chairperson TEVTA further said there were five Apprentices Training Centres (ATCs) for institutional training of apprentices at Lahore, Ferozewala, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Faisalabad. At present, there are 1,038 apprentices taking institutional training. TEVTA has also launched a Germany-Pakistan Apprentice Training Initiative (GPATI) Programme in Punjab. GPATI is a dual system of Technical/Vocational Training meant for Pakistani youth which aims at imparting training in accordance with the need of Employers. The institutional training of first batch in four trades i.e. Electrician, Machinist, Sales Officer, and Customer Service Officer was started on January 6, 2014. On the completion of six months, 96 trainees were deputed at partner companies for six months on-job-training. TEVTA has also organised seminars, skill competitions, employers’ days and school students awareness programmes for dissemination of the Apprenticeship Training Scheme and GPATI, he concluded.
