LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA Saadia Sohail on Wednesday submitted an adjournment motion demanding a debate on the usage of pork fat (pig fat) in the feed of fish imported from Vietnam.

Saadia Sohail in the adjournment motion submitted that according to a report published in a section of media, the fish imported from Vietnam which is later used as ‘finger fish’ was fed on pig fat due to which it has become difficult for Muslim population of Pakistan to differentiate whether it was Halal or Haram.

She also voiced concern over the use of poisonous chemical mixed in cold water to preserve the fish for a longer period. The Punjab Assembly session on Wednesday also took up questions related to Finance and Irrigation Departments.

Meanwhile, Ashraf Ali Ansari, a PML-N legislator from Gujranwala through an adjournment motion drew the attention of the House towards the miserable condition of mentally-disturbed and retarded patients, particularly women and children due to absence of a mental health institute in Gujranwala division.

Ashraf Ali Ansari in the adjournment motion submitted that despite the passage of several years, no mental healthcare centre had been established in the division due to which mentally-retarded patients had to face huge problems.

He said their condition was so miserable that even the close relatives were not willing to accept them and they were referred to Lahore Mental Hospital but even here, they were not accepted by the hospital administration.

Not only this, Ansari said that such patients also fell into the trap of criminal elements and sometimes they were sent to Dar-ul-Amaan for protection but the sense of insecurity among them persisted.

The ruling party MPA demanded immediate setting up of a Mental Health Institute in Gujranwala division to address the grievances faced by patients and their families. The motion was made pending by the chair.
