Minor girl killed in Swat accident

MINGORA: A minor girl was killed in a road accident at Matta tehsil in Swat district on Sunday, official sources said. They said that eight-year-old Lubna, daughter of one Ismail, was on her way in Ghari Chuprial area when a speeding pickup-truck struck her, leaving her critically injured. The driver fled the scene. The injured girl was shifted to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The police registered the case and started investigation.

 

Militant arrested in Kohat search operation

KOHAT: The police arrested a wanted militant during search operation here on Sunday.District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Iqbal said the arrested militant, Qari Awais, was wanted to the police in connection with different cases of heinous nature and a bounty of Rs 0.5 million had been placed on him. He was reported to be the commander of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.The official said 68 suspected persons were also arrested during the search.

 

Murderer of wife, paramour held in TT   Singh

TOBA TEK SINGH: Arrouti police on Sunday arrested a man from Lahore who had allegedly murdered his wife and her paramour.Accused Ghulam Shabbir of Durabad had allegedly killed his wife Razia and her alleged paramour Jafar when he saw them in compromising position at his home on Wednesday. Later, the accused had fled to Lahore.

 

Protest against killings in Syria, Myanmar

TOBA TEK SINGH: Activists of various religious organisations on Sunday protested against the killings of innocent people in Syria and Myanmar. The protesters carrying placards and banners gathered at Shahbaz Chowk and chanted slogans against the UNO and other international organisations for their silence over the massacre in both countries. They demanded the Islamic countries raise forceful voice to stop the killings in both countries.

 

Newly-wedcouple dies of suffocation

PARACHINAR: A newly-married couple died due to suffocation in the Dandar area of Parachinar, Kurram Agency, on Sunday. Local officials said Engineer Hanain Mumtaz and his wife lecturer Raheeda were sleeping in their house and had kept the gas stove in their room switched on for heating the room. The victims were shifted to hospital where the doctors pronounced them dead. Later, their bodies were shifted to their native land Boraki and buried in their ancestral graveyard.

 

PML-N councillor joins PTI

TOBA TEK SINGH: The PTI can win the chairman and vice-chairman slots of Toba Municipal Committee after PML-N councillor Sardar Ishaq Dogar announced joining the PTI on Saturday night.Now the PTI has21 votes in the house and the PML-N has 19 councillors under its umbrella. Toba Tek Singh would be now one of those cities in the province where the PTI has gained majority of councillors in the Municipal Committee and has come in a position to get its candidate elected as the MC chairman. PTI councillor Mian Muhammad Atif had joined the PML-N about a week ago and after his joining, both PTI and PML-N had 20 votes each in a 40-member Toba MC house. Now after joining the PML-N councillor Sardar Ishaq Dogar, the PTI can get elected his candidate on the Toba MC chairman slot.

 

Four of a family suffer burns in Quetta

ISLAMABAD: Four members of a family were burnt in Quetta due to a blast caused by gas leakage on Sunday. According to a private news channel, hospital sources stated that the incident took place in Samungali Road’s area Kali Shadi Khan, when a woman tried to ignite a gas heater early in the morning. Just when she lit the match, a huge explosion occurred due to gas leakage. The explosion burnt four people including Abdul Jabbar, 48, his wife Bibi Zamru, 35, son Naik Muhammad, 5, and eight-year-old daughter. They have been transferred to the burn unit of Bolan Medical College, where doctors have said all are out of danger.

 

Protesters demand abolition of FCR

KHAR: Activists of various political parties on Sunday staged a protest outside the press club here to demand the abolition of Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR). Led by acting president of Bajaur Siyasi Ittihad Maulana Abdul Majeed, the protesters chanted slogans against the FCR. Holding banners and placards, the protesters asked the government to do away with the draconian laws in the tribal region. They criticised certain vested interests for supporting the FCR for their personal gains.

BAHAWALPUR: A man was shot dead over a children row at Mailay Wali Gali on Sunday. Three accused, including Qasim, allegedly shot Imran dead over a children row. The accused belonged to Imran’s rival group.

BANNU: A TDP was killed here on Sunday, official sources said. Arshad Khan, displaced person from North Waziristan, was on his way home near Bannu Museum when unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle fired at him, killing him instantly.

 

Five dead, three injured as van falls into ravine

ABBOTTABAD: Five people died and three others injured when a van fell into a ravine here Sunday. Rescue sources said Kalabagh-Havelian bound passenger van while negotiating a sharp turn skidded off the road and fell into a 2000 feet deep ravine in Makol Payeen locality of Abbottabad resulting in death of five people on the spot and leaving three others critically wounded. The locals pulled out the bodies and injured from the gorge and shifted them to a hospital, where condition of two people was stated to critical.

 

Christian community holds peace rally in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The members of the Christian community held a peace rally from Saddar to the Peshawar Press Club here on Sunday. A large number of men, women and children from Christian community participated in the rally while holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans like 'long live Pakistan' long live Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,' 'We are a living nation and happy Christmas & 'Happy new year'. They chanted slogans in favour of peace and expressed love for and loyalty to the country. The speakers said, like other Pakistanis, Christians were peace-loving and loyal citizens and playing their role in the progress and prosperity of the country. They vowed to render any sacrifice for maintenance of peace and tranquility in the province and country.

SIALKOT: A man was shot dead near Ferozke Nagra village on Sunday.Wilson Masih, a sanitary worker of the TMA Pasrur, was on his way when some unidentified accused shot him dead.
