Apsara stuns eighth seed in tennis tourney

KARACHI: Karachi-based Apsara Sheeraz pulled off an impressive win when she thrashed eighth seed Eshal Khan in straight sets in the ladies singles first round match of BB Shaheed International Tennis Tournament at Islamabad Tennis Complex in Islamabad on Tuesday. Apsara proved too good for the higher-ranked opponent and won the match 6-3, 6-4.
In other matches of the event, Shiza Sajid defeated Farheen Fazli by 6-2, 6-1. Arooba Shahab beat Arooj Shahid by 6-2, 6-0. Nida Akram beat Taliya Bilal by 6-0, 6-1.
Rosabel Ujala, Bakhtawar Haider and Azeena Aleem eased into the second round after they got walkovers.
