A prosecution witness against Ziauddin Hospital’s chief finance officer (CFO), a co-accused of former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain - owner of the hospital - in a money laundering case, was cross-examined by the defense counsel before an accountability court (AC) on Monday.
The case hearing was put off till December 13.
Case against the hospital’s CFO was being heard separately since Abdul Hameed was neither arrested along with Dr Hussain, nor was he initially considered a co-accused.
He was later included in the investigation after he was found to have used his personal account to transfer money.
The prosecution witness produced by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) alleged that CFO Hameed had been working to gain financial benefits from the former petroleum minister, and was involved in money laundering.
The witness’ statement was however disputed by the CFO’s attorney.
Earlier in the day, Dr Hussain’s plea for hearing the Rs17 billion money laundering case on an urgent basis by the AC concerned, was also accepted by the Sindh High Court (SHC). Notices in this regard had also been sent to the NAB prosecutor.
