The CSS is the most sought competitive exam in Pakistan. Every year, thousands of students appear in the CSS exams to qualify for the most privileged jobs of the BPS-17. Over the past 10 years, the FPSC has witnessed an unprecedented increase in the number of students appearing in the CSS exams. But the performance of civil servants is exacerbating due to inefficiency in the process of selection and allocation. It is deplorable that the government has failed to bring reforms in civil services. In the reports of CSS reforms, many civil servants underscored the instrumental significance of reforms in civil services and suggested a few sophisticated measures but to no avail.
In 2015, the reshuffling of optional subjects bore no fruitful result other than decreasing the number of successful candidates. Several summaries have been presented to the establishment division and the prime minister’s office from time to time, which have undergone hot debates but all was futile. There is a dire need of reforms in the CSS as it will help the people of the country to serve their country first and foremost.
