NUML professor honoured

Islamabad: The Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran Mehdi Honardoost has honoured Professor of Persian Language Department of National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Dr. Mahr Noor Muhammad Khan for his services for the promotion of Persian language.

Rich tribute was paid to Professor Dr. Mahr Noor Muhammad Khan in a ceremony organised by Iran Embassy held at NUML campus. The cultural counsellor Shabud-Din Darie, Director General NUML Brig Riaz Ahmed Gondal, Director Iran-Pakistan Institute of Persian Studies Eisa Karimi, Dr. Iftikhar Arif, Prof Razia Akbar, distinguished guests and a large number of students attended the ceremony.

In his address Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost termed Dr. Mahr Noor an asset for both the countries and said that people of Pakistan and Iran must learn from his experiences.

He said that Persian is the second largest spoken language of the Muslim world after Arabic and remained the state language of sub-continent for centuries. He further said that national poet of Pakistan Allam Iqbal wrote his most of the Kalaam in Persian language which shows the importance of this language.

At the end, the e ambassador again acknowledged the services of Dr. Mahr and said that Iran would never forget the services of Mahr Noor Khan for the Persian language and literature.

Director General NUML Brig Riaz Ahmed Gondal, in his closing remarks, said that it is matter of great pleasure and respect for NUML that a person like Dr. Mahr Noor Khan is part of the University faculty and today his services are being acknowledged by the Iranian embassy for the promotion of Persian language. He said Dr. Mahr Noor is an example for others who wish to get excellence in their fields.
