JHANG: According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, independent candidate Masroor Nawaz Jhangvi emerged successful on Thursday in by-polls at PP-78, reports Geo News. Voting ended at 5:00pm.
Overall the voting process remained peaceful. The seat was left vacant after former PML-N parliamentarian Rashid Yaqoob was disqualified for concealing his assets. There are 206,562 registered voters in the constituency.
For the first time in the city’s history, a transgender also contested in the by-elections. Mohammad Arif aka Madam Bota competed against 25 other candidates. Tough contest took place between PML-N candidate Azad Nasir and independent candidate Masroor Nawaz Jhangvi. Out of the 171 polling station in the area 17 had been declared sensitive.
