PPP chairman announces party office-bearers for KP, Balochistan

LAHORE: PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has appointed in captivity Dr Asim Hussain as president PPP and senator Saeed Ghani as general secretary Karachi Division. 

Shehla Raza, the deputy speaker of the Sindh Assembly, was appointed as secretary information of Karachi Division by the PPP chairman during a meeting at the Bilawal House Lahore Tuesday. Bilawal, through a tweet also called the PML-N as ‘nakam’ (failed) League and Tehreek-e-Insaaf as ‘Na Insaaf League’ while slamming both for targeting Benazir Bhutto even after a decade of her assassination. 

“Jialas! remain calm, let them do politics, we will serve Bhuttoism” said the tweet of Bilawal. In a tweet later, he also asked rivals to remember that he was the nephew of Murtaza and Shahnawaz. Later, chairing a meeting of party members at the Bilawal House, the PPP chairman also announced the organisation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. 

Main participants of the meeting included opposition leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah, PPP’s Central Punjab president Qamar Zaman Kaira, general secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan, secretary information Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Nisar Khoro, the Sindh minister, former MNA Nuralam Khan, Fateh Muhammad Hasni from Balochistan, Latif Akbar Khan from the AJK. Humayun Khan, a party stalwart from Malakland was made party president of his area. Faisal Karim Kundi, former deputy speaker of the National Assembly who defeated JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman from a Dera Ismail Khan NA seat was made secretary general. Senator Usman Saifullah, who is son of Anwar Saifullah and belongs to Lakki Marwat, Bannu, has been made deputy general secretary of KP. Senator Rubina Khalid, who is also a close relative of former MNA from Peshawar late Zafar Ali Shah, has been made secretary information. Zafar Ali Shah became MNA from the seat in 1993 from where Benazir Bhutto contested in 1990, NA-1 Peshawar. 

Dr Asim Hussain, the newly-appointed head of Karachi Division is under captivity these days over various charges, and also undergoing medical treatment. He got elected as senator and served as adviser on petroleum and natural resources in the last PPP regime. 

He started his political career in student days and remained an active member of National Students Federation from 1971 to 1978. He was arrested last year by Rangers in Karachi and receiving medical aid at the Jinnah Hospital, Karachi. 

Senator Saeed Ghani, son of a labour leader late Usman Ghani, who has been made general secretary of Karachi Division remained active in students politics as well as local government politics. He was first elected union council nazim in 2001 and later in 2005 from Chanesar Goth, Karachi. In both terms, he also served as opposition leader in Karachi Municipal Corporation in 2001 against Jamaat-e-Islami and in 2005 against the MQM. He was also made senator in later years. 

Talking to The News, senator Saeed Ghani said the PPP would be the largest party in 2018 polls from Karachi and would continue its struggle for the empowerment of masses. 

Shehla Raza who was made secretary information of Karachi Division and talking to this correspondent said she belonged to Karachi, where her kith and kin were buried. She stated she would utilise all her energy to strengthen party in the division and invited people from all segments of society to join the PPP.
