Ex-servicemen condemn Indian aggression on LoC

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association (Pesa) has condemned India for killing seven Pakistani soldiers by unprovoked shelling on the Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

It is one of the military’s biggest single loss of life in AJK since a 2003 truce which is unforgivable as it has threatened peace between two nuclear states, it said.

This was observed during a meeting of the executive council of PESA under senior vice president Vice Admiral Ahmad Tasnim.

The meeting discussed highly provocative and aggressive attitude being displayed by India along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir and noted that the Pakistan Army is fully capable of defending the country.

The veterans paid glowing tributes to the gallant soldiers of the Pakistan Army for their befitting response through intense exchanges of fire resulting in many casualties on the Indian side.

However, grave concern was expressed at the real motives of India for sudden change to such an aggressive style. The members suspected some deeper motives behind these activities like influencing our foreign relations or internal affairs.

It was felt that mere handing over of protest notes to Indian diplomats after each incident was not enough. The meeting agreed that the Foreign Office must play a proactive role in apprising nations of the world about the situation through effective emissaries and demarches.

Participants of the meeting said the international community must be adequately sensitised about the nuclear overhang in South Asia. Most importantly, they said, the Foreign Office must find out the real underlying reasons behind this change in Indian behaviour.
