Cotton arrival shows 9.49pc increase

MULTAN: Seed cotton (Phutti) equivalent to over 8,780,543 bales has reached ginneries across the country till November 15, showing an increase of 9.49 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year when ginneries received 8,019,613 bales.

According to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) fortnightly report, the ginning factories in the Punjab recorded arrival of 5,379,571 bales with an increase of 15.59 per cent while the Sindh ginneries recorded arrival of 3,400,972 bales, showing an increase of 1.05 per cent. The textile mills bought 6,579,394 bales while the exporters bought 155,544 bales. The total bales sold out so far were calculated at 6,734,938 bales. According to the PCGA report, Multan received 249,885 bales (139.24 per cent increase), Lodhran 149,971 bales (104.48 per cent increase), Khanewal 507,189 bales (50.08 per cent increase), Muzaffargarh 273,533 bales (31.3 per cent increase), Dera Ghazi Khan 282,432 bales (9.82 per cent increase), Rajanpur 314,860 bales (16.03 per cent decrease), Layyah 216,030 bales (5.55 per cent increase), Vehari 322,356 bales (12.12 per cent increase), Sahiwal 182,073 bales (17.01 per cent decrease), Pakpattan 38,250 bales (40.02 per cent decrease), Okara 18,607 bales (12.9 pre cent decrease), Toba Tek Singh 138,578 bales, Faisalabad 30,730 bales (27.47 per cent decrease), Jhang 28,762 bales (29.09 per cent decrease), Mianwali 202,893 bales (4.46 per cent decrease), Bhakkar 57,278 bales (11.93 per cent decrease), Sargodha 8,200 bales (24.77 per cent decrease), Rahimyar Khan 831,716 bales (0.59 per cent decrease), Bahawalpur 759,024 bales (28.67 per cent increase), Bahawalnagar 766,704 bales (33.83 per cent increase), Hyderabad 218,108 bales (9.71 per cent decrease), Mirpur Khas (Thar) 258,531 bales (3.5 per cent decrease), Sangarh 1,193,521 bales (6.22 per cent decrease), Nawabshah 303,860 bales (4.91 per cent increase), Naushero Feroze 293,475 bales (13.31 per cent increase), Khairpur 248,027 bales (10.77 per cent increase), Ghotki 233,114 bales (9.02 per cent increase), Sukkur 420,282 bales (18.89 per cent increase), Dadu 34,091 bales (27.99 per cent increase), Jamshoro 102,863 bales (21.35 per cent decrease), Badin 27,027 bales (14.47 per cent decrease) and Balochistan 66,200 bales (24.33 per cent increase).

Total 987 ginning factories are operational in the country. Of them, 715 are in the Punjab and 272 in Sindh. Total 2,045,605 bales are lying in unsold stock.
