Associate professor shot dead in Lahore

LAHORE: An associate professor of a local college on Tuesday was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Lahore. According to police and rescue officials, the incident occurred in Iqbal Town area where unidentified gunmen riding two motorbikes fired shots on Professor Rao Altaf’s car. The professor, who was associated with Government College of Science, died on the spot, suffering several bullet wounds.

The police have started investigation into the incident to determine whether the attack was a targeted killing. Police officials are getting help from the CCTV footage of the incident and the eyewitnesses to trace the culprits.

The professor’s body has been shifted to Mayo Hospital in Lahore, officials said. Scores of teachers have been killed by the criminals in various incidents of targeted killing across the country. Unidentified assailants had killed principal of Law College in Quetta Barrister Amanullah Khan this year.

Last year in April, Prof Waheedur Rehman of Mass Communication Department of Karachi University was targeted. Another prominent teacher and the Dean of Islamic Studies in Karachi University, Prof Shakeel Auj was killed in Gulshan Iqbal area of Karachi in 2014.
