MIRPURKHAS: Complaints have been made by some parents saying that due to teachers’ absenteeism, peons are acting as teachers in many government schools of the district. This was discussed during the first formal meeting of the district council.

The meeting was presided over by the chairman of the council, Mir Anwar Ali Talpur.  The meeting also expressed its serious concerns over the closure of 314 schools in the district. The council members were shocked when the education officers told them that not only 314 schools were closed, but the buildings of hundreds of other schools were in a dangerous condition.

"The number of schools without any shelter is 460," they were told. The Deputy Commissioner of Mirpurkhas, Mehdi Shah, told the meeting that the government had not released any funds for repair and maintenance of the school buildings for the last four years. The council unanimously demanded strict and immediate action against those officers and officials who had been damaging the whole education system across the district.
