Former senator dies

SUKKUR: A former senator and the Vice President of Sindh PML-F, Chaudhry Sajid Hussain, 90, died at the ICU of the Civil Hospital of Khairpur on Friday.  The deceased had taken an active part in the Pakistan Movement. He also led the Anjuman-e-Tajiran of Khairpur and remained a part of the Red Crescent Society. He was laid to rest at the Anjuman-e-Hyderi graveyard, and his funeral was attended by a large number of people.

 

  First-ever endoscopy in Khairpur

SUKKUR: First-ever endoscopy was conducted at the Civil Hospital in Khairpur.  Doctors Rattan Kumar, Hayee Phulpoto and Shoaib Rind conducted the endoscopy.

 

Mother of Nadeem Iqbal passes away

ISLAMABAD: Mother of Nadeem Iqbal of Jang Group passed away on Friday after brief illness. She was 85. Her Namaz-e-Jinaza was offered in graveyard of Bahria Town Rawalpindi Friday night. Quran Khawani of Ms Munawar Aara will be held at House No-50, Street- 3, Bahria Town, Phase-II, Rawalpindi on Sunday (October 30) after Zuhar prayers.

 

Children injured in Hangu accident

HANUG: Around 15 schoolchildren and three women sustained injuries when two vehicles collided in Barh Abbaskhel on Friday, official sources said. They said that a school van of Khushal Academy was on its way back from school when it collided with a passenger vehicle. As a result, 15 children and three women sustained injuries.The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Hangu wherefrom one of them was shifted to a hospital in Peshawar due to his precarious condition.

 

Narcotics, liquor seized in Landikotal

LANDIKOTAL: The Customs authorities on Friday foiled a narcotics smuggling bid at the Torkham border, an official said.

Naeem Khan told the reporters that the customs officials stopped a truck (KBL-56925) coming from Afghanistan at the Torkham border. He said that the customs officials recovered 64 kilogram of hashish and three kilogram of opium concealed in the secret cavities of the vehicle during the search. He said the driver managed to escape.

Meanwhile, Khassadar force personnel raided a compound near Jamrud Bazaar and recovered a large quantity of local branded liquor (Tarra).Assistant Political Agent Jamrud Ziaur Rehman Marwat said that the administration also arrested five persons during the raid.

 

French Embassy to open
office at Peshawar’s UET campus

PESHAWAR: The French Embassy on Friday announced to open “Campus France Office” at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar.The announcement was made by French Embassy’s Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs, Andre de Bussy, during his visit to the UET Peshawar.

Andre, in a reception hosted by Acting Vice-Chancellor UET Prof Dr Iftikhar Hussain and faculty, said the office of the French Embassy at the UET would serve as a hub to help enhance cooperation between the French and Pakistani scientific organisations, engaged in research and development programs in scientific and technology fields.

The forum will have a Pakistan-France Alumni Network, PFAN to start French language course and jointly conduct French Education Expo’s at the UET, Peshawar. The programme is intended for young Pakistani graduates

 

Three injured in landmines blast

QUETTA: Three persons were injured in a landmines blast in Dera Bugti town on Friday.According to Levies sources, the victims were on way to somewhere in a tractor when it hit the landmine planted besides the road. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Security forces cordoned off the entire area. Meanwhile, the FC recovered a large number of ammunition in Dulwae area of Barkhan district Friday. According to FC spokesman, the FC personnel carried out combing operation and recovered ammunition including three 82mm mortar rounds, three IEDs, four IED remotes, nine detonators, five detonating cord, one torch, three RL, 10 RL fuse, 190 12.7 bullets, four mines, 1954 MG rounds, one mortar fuse, one bandolier, one pistol case, two satellite sets, four mobile phones and a motorbike.

 

Three terrorists killed in Kalat operation

QUETTA: Three terrorists have been killed in a gunbattle with the Frontier Corps Balochistan in the Sumalo area of Kalat on Friday.A spokesman for the FC said here that following tip-off about the presence of militants in Sumalo mountainous area of Kalat district, the FC personnel launched a search operation which led to an exchange of fire between the FC and militants.Three militants were killed in the gunbattle with FC team, he said adding that firing was still continuing in the area. He further said that the FC has demolished three camps of militants and seized weapons from them. The FC teams have cordoned off the entire area.

 

CJP condemns Quetta terror attack

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Police Training Centre Quetta that claimed lives of innocent police recruits besides causing injuries to many people. The Chief Justice of Pakistan offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for speedy recovery of injured people.
