LAHORE
University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday issued the first selection list of candidates admitted to MBBS and BDS programme in public sector medical and dental colleges of the Punjab for the session 2016-17, according to which last merit for MBBS is 88.6818 and that for BDS 88.5545 percent.A UHS spokesperson said the merit had been calculated as per the weightage formula of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), adding 10 percent of matriculation, 40 percent of intermediate and 50 percent of entrance test marks.
Only those candidates who secured 82 percent or above aggregate marks as per PMDC formula were eligible to apply for admission on open merit basis this year. Applications were received from 3rd to 15th of October.
A total of 54,908 candidates appeared in the entrance test this year. Out of these, 12,342 eligible candidates applied for admission against 3,197 open merit (3,022 MBBS + 175 BDS), 61 under-developed districts’ (49 MBBS +12 BDS), 76 reserved seats for children of Overseas Pakistanis/dual nationality holders (72 MBBS + 4 BDS), and 20 disabled candidates (19 MBBS + 01 BDS) seats available in 17 public sector medical and three dental colleges of the province.
According to details, King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Lahore, as always remained the top choice of candidates with merit for the institution closing at 92.3727 percent. The last merit for Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore is 91.3182 percent, Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore 90.7983 percent, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College, Lahore 90.4237, Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore 90.1368 percent, Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, Lahore 90.0381 percent, Nishtar Medical College, Multan 89.8944 percent, Rawalpindi Medical College, Rawalpindi 89.4398 percent, Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad 89.4013 percent, Gujranwala Medical College, Gujranwala 89.2545 percent, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur 89.1273 percent, Sargodha Medical College, Sargodha 89.0675 percent, Khawaja Mohammad Safdar Medical College, Sialkot 88.8913 percent, Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Gujrat 88.8900 percent, Sahiwal Medical College, Sahiwal 88.8498 percent, Shaikh Zayed Medical College, Rahimyar Khan 88.7671 percent, and DG Khan Medical College, DG Khan 88.6818 percent. For BDS programme, the last merit of de’Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore is 88.6563 percent, Nishtar Institute of Dentistry, Multan 88.5909 percent and that of Dental Section Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad 88.5545 percent.
For Reciprocal seats, the merit of Khyber Medical College, Peshawar is 89.1351, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College, Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 88.6771, Azad Jammu Kashmir Medical College, Muzaffarabad, AJ&K, 88.6589, Bolan Medical College, Quetta 88.6130 and for Poonch Medical College, Rawlakot, AJ&K, the last merit is 88.6139 percent. For 76 seats reserved for Children of Overseas Pakistani/dual nationality holders, the last merit is 87.5532. A total of 540 candidates applied in that category. A total of 126 candidates applied for admission against 20 seats reserved for disabled students. They were examined by specialist medical boards, constituted under the law. Out of these, 65 were declared disabled for the purpose of admissions. The last merit in this category is 77.8455 percent.
For admission against 61 seats reserved for the students of six under-developed districts, including Muzzafargarh, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Bhakkar, Layyah and DG Khan, a total of 829 applications were received. The last merit for MBBS in this category is as follows: Muzzafargarh 88.4736 percent, Rajanpur (Tribal Area) 66.2351 percent, Rajanpur (Settled Area) 88.4273 percent, Lodhran 88.2597 percent, Bhakkar 87.5113 percent, Layyah 88.3177 percent and DG Khan (Tribal Area) 85.9364 percent and DG Khan (Settled Area) 88.4571 percent. The merit for one seat reserved for Cholistan is 82.7433 percent.

The selected candidates will be issued call letters by the respective colleges. The MBBS classes in public sector medical colleges will commence on November 14. The second selection list will be displayed on November 28.
