Unjustified distribution of resources sparks protest in MCI meeting

The members of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) during a session of the MCI here Thursday strongly protested unjustified distribution of resources between rural and urban areas of the federal capital.

Some chairmen of union councils during the session chaired by Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz, also exchanged harsh words on issue of divide created between rural and urban areas when it comes to provision of basic facilities like streets, water supply and streetlights.

The chairmen and councillors, who were attending the meeting, also expressed serious concerns over delay in formation of a committee to address water supply issue in the federal capital. On that Sheikh Anser directed Chief Metropolitan Officer (CMO) Asad Kiani to issue notification for constitution of the committee within 24 hours.

The members belonging to rural areas while registering their strong protest, refused to talk on issues of streetlights and water supply. “How we can talk on these issues when we do not have streets and water,” one of the councillors hailing from rural areas of Islamabad said.

A number of chairmen and councillors also raised concerns over spread of Dengue fever in various union councils. One of councillors from Humak Model Town said the cases of Dengue fever in his union council were more than teh cases reported in the whole Punjab province while one councillor had died of this fever.

The councillors also pointed that arrangement for spray to control Dengue fever and insufficient saying that most of bottles carrying spray material remain unused. The Islamabad Mayor informed that meeting that the prime minister had ordered recruitment of 450 personnel for purpose activities meant for controling of Dengue fever in federal capital. The members also protested against operation targeting poor vendors who are doing small business to earn their bread and butter.
