Islamabad

Teachers and other staff members of Islamabad’s model colleges on Tuesday went on strike for an indefinite period over the failure of the Capital Administration and Development Division and Federal Directorate of Education to resolve their issues, especially denial of promotion despite repeated requests.

The strike, whose call was given by the Joint Action Committee of the model colleges’ employees associations, brought academic and administrative activities at model colleges to a halt.

Though present at workplace, the model college employees didn’t do duty. Students spent time playing in grounds or chitchatting in canteens.

The protesters demanded upgradation of teaching and non-teaching staff, regular/time-scale promotions, revision of the existing promotion formulas, creation/re-designation of the posts, provision of monetisation allowance to employees of BPS-20 and above in line with the government policy, posting and transfer of principals, headmistress, admin officers and accountants on merit/seniority basis, timely release of salary to daily-wagers and permanent resolution of their problems, placement of the already-regularised employees in line with the directives of high court and CADD secretary, and establishment of separate directorate for Islamabad’s model colleges.

They warned academic and administrative activities would remain suspended at model colleges until their demands were met.

The JAC leaders insisted the strike was a big successful as no academic and administrative activities happened at model colleges.  They said things would remain the same until the FDE and CADD met their demands.
