LG secretary told to take action against ghost employees
The Sindh High Court directed the local government secretary local bodies on Tuesday to take action against employees who were appointed in violation of rules in the Garhi Yasin town and submit a report.
The directive came during a hearing of a petition of Dur Mohammad Shah against the non-utilisation of development funds in the Madeji union council of Garhi Yaseen.
The petitioner submitted that the budget of Garhi Yaseen was about Rs15.5 million, but the most of the amount was misappropriated instead of being utilised for development purposes.
Madeji Town Committee Chairman Najaf Ali Khan appeared before the court and said he tried his best to clean up the union council but could not do achieve the task due to a shortage of staff. He said that in the past, people were appointed to the sanitary department out of political considerations and they refused to do their job.
The hight court summoned local governments secretary Rizwan Awan, who submitted that certain appointments were made on a political basis and government was taking action as most of them were appointed to non-sanctioned posts.
The court directed the secretary to take the necessary action against persons who appointed in violation of the rules and replace them with persons suitable for the required jobs.
The secretary said he would commence the process and submit a report in four weeks. He also assured the court that he would ensure the problems being faced by the residents of Madeji were resolved.
The court also told him to ensure the release of funds to the Madeji town and submit a report by November 23.
