Nasir Mahmood Soomro rejects election results, demands re-election
SUKKUR: Imtiaz Shaikh of the PPP won the by-election in PS-11 Shikarpur. A tough contest between the PPP candidate, Imtiaz Shaikh, and his JUI-F rival, Nasir Mahmood Soomro, was witnessed.
Nasir Mahmood Soomro, however, rejected the results alleging rigging, and demanded of the government to order re-election under the supervision of the Army. Imtiaz Shaikh secured 35,237 votes, Nasir Mahmood Soomro 26,244 votes and Azam Brohi, a PTI candidate, 602 votes.
Independent candidates, Faraz Imtiaz and Zahid Mirani, secured 426 and 154 votes respectively. No untoward incident from any polling station was reported. Rangers and police maintained the law and order situation. The turnout of voters was recorded at 43 percent. Meanwhile, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari congratulated Shaikh and the people of Shikarpur and said that Sindh is the stronghold of the PPP.
