Man commits suicide

LAHORE

A 30-year-old man committed suicide by taking poisonous pills in the Nawankot area on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Afzal of Jhuggian Nagran, Nawankot. It was reported that Afzal was depressed after an accident which left him with serious injuries around 15 days back. On the day of the incident, Afzal swallowed poisonous pills, as a result of which, his condition went critical. He was rushed to hospital where he expired. In another incident, a 31-year-old man ended his life by taking poisonous pills. He was identified as Abdul Majeed. Police said that Abdul Majeed, who was depressed over domestic issues, had committed suicide by taking poisonous pills. 

Accidents: Total 594 road traffic accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which eight lives were lost and 507 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts. However, some 188 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after provision of first aid by Emergency Medical Teams.

arrested: CIA police arrested 712 criminals during the months of August and September 2016. The arrested criminals were involved in robbery, car snatching, car lifting, theft and other miscellaneous crimes. Police recovered illicit weapons, drugs and valuables from their possession.

traffic: City traffic police established nine diversion points to ensure smooth flow of traffic during protest on The Mall on Thursday. Two DSPs, five traffic inspectors, seven patrolling officers and 41 traffic wardens performed duty to regulate the traffic during the protest demonstration staged by a religious group.
