KMC projects likely to be completed by year-end
KARACHI: The construction at KMC sports complex is nearing completion as 90 percent development work has been done and the remaining is likely to be finished by the end of this year, ‘The News’ has learnt.
Sources said due to some financial constraints the construction work has been delayed but now the situation is under control.
KMC has developed a bowling alley, new squash courts, a futsal arena, badminton courts, a volleyball court, three cricket practice pitches and a football ground.
Futsal and bowling are popular sports among the younger generation of the city.
Besides, a pavilion has been built which can accommodate more than two thousand spectators.
The pavilion is in front of the football and athletics facilities.
A tartan track was in the initial plans but due to lack of vision of some KMC high-ups and financial constraints that idea was dropped and it was decided that it would be included in the next year budget.
There is only one tartan track in entire Sindh, which is at PSB-owned coaching centre in Karachi, but it completed its life many years ago.
The PSB has not bothered to replace it.
Director CSR of KMC Khursheed Ahmed told ‘The News’ that they were striving to complete the work as soon as possible. He said the next year’s summer camp would be held in a befitting manner.
Ahmed said that after completion of the project facilities for a large number of sports would be available at one place.
The project was slowed due to paucity of funds for past several months but KMC high-ups released funds and now the pace of work has increased, sources said.
Other projects, including the swimming pool and the diving pool, have already been completed. The swimming and diving pools have been operational for many months.
