Five soldiers among 12 inured in accident

HANGU: Twelve persons, including five soldiers, sustained injuries in a road mishap in Raisan area here on Monday, official sources said.They said that the soldiers were moving to Kurram Agency in a convoy of private vehicles when one vehicle collided with a passenger coach in Raisan, leaving five soldiers and seven passengers injured. The passengers were taken to the Civil Hospital in Hangu while the soldiers were taken to the Combined Military Hospital in Kohat.

Jeweller demands action against harassment

PESHAWAR: A jeweller of Peshawar Saddar on Monday asked the government and inspector general of police to provide him justice against a woman customer, who allegedly implicated him in false cases and harassed him through the intelligence agencies. Speaking at a news conference in the Peshawar Press Club, Mohammad Subhan accused Saima Umar of preparing fake stamp papers to prove they she had paid him money.   —Correspondent

 

22,000 London cops to get body cams 

LONDON: London mayor Sadiq Khan has announced that the long-discussed initiative to provide London police officers with body cameras is rolling out, reports foreign media.   Some 22,000 police officers across London will be issued with the cameras.

Three bodies found in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Unidentified criminals burnt three women in Chamiari area of Tehkal and threw their bodies in the fields on Monday. The women seemed to be young. However, their identity couldn’t be ascertained. A large number of police, Edhi rescuers and villagers gathered at the spot to shift the bodies to hospital.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday thanked his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina for the support given by the country after last month's terror attack in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir.  External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup, who was speaking on the sidelines of BRICS-BIMSTEC Summit at Cavelosim said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for showing solidarity with India after the Uri attack."

 

Three of a family killed in accident buried

TOBA TEK SINGH: Three members of a family, who were killed in an accident on Motorway, were buried in a graveyard at Chak 397/JB on Sunday. Shahid Rehman, his niece and her minor daughter were killed in an accident near Sheikhupura. Shahid’s daughter was also injured in the accident. —Correspondent

 

23 school kids injured in Hangu road accident

HANGU: At least 23 schoolchildren, a teacher and a driver sustained injuries on Monday as a vehicle plunged into a gorge in the district. It was learnt that a van was carrying grade 9 and 10 students of the Government High School Shahokhel to Noruz area for a cricket match. The driver lost control over the steering wheel while negotiating a sharp turn in Karapa area and the vehicle fell into a gorge. As a result, 23 schoolchildren, a teacher and the driver of the vehicle sustained injuries in the accident. The injured were shifted to a hospital in Hangu where the condition of all the injured was stated to be stable. Reports said that the incident occurred due to overloading.

 

Pak-Afghan border in Kurram Agency remains closed

PARACHINAR: The Pak-Afghan border in Kurram Agency remained closed for the fourth day on Monday. The border remained closed for four days during Muharram, but was reopened on Friday. However, two security forces personnel sustained injuries when they foiled a 12-year-old suicide attacker from entering Pakistan. The security forces again sealed the border after the foiled terror attempt which remained closed for four more days, inconveniencing the people, transporters and traders.

NOWSHERA: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief Mushtaq Ahmed Khan on Monday said that arrangements for the public meeting were in final stages. Speaking at a press conference here, he said that tent city had been established at a 1500 kanal land which included hospital, accomodation for participants and separate places for men and women.

 

Tribesmen to pay Rs300 monthly power charges

PARACHINAR: Tribesmen in upper parts of Kurram Agency on Monday agreed to pay Rs300 monthly installment for getting electricity for 10 hours daily. A jirga attended by officials of the political administration and tribal elders was held at the Governor’s Cottage in Parachinar.

 

KP Police jawans awarded

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani awarded Kohat and Hangu police jawans for humanitarian services extended to two kids recently. Constable Tariq Aziz of Hangu district was on special duty on the 8th Muharram in when he served drinks to a special kid Naveed Rehman, took care of him and helped the child reach his house. A local sitting in nearby shop took the picture of the constable when he was helping the kid and later posted it on the social media that went viral. Also, Traffic Head Constable Qasim Khan of Kohat found a seven-year old girl and made announcements on loudspeakers from different mosques in Kohat city as well as informed the Rescue 15. But nobody contacted him. The cop took the girl to his home and uploaded a message along with photo of the girl on the social media that helped the girl meet her parents. IGP Nasir Durrani called the two cops to the Central Police Office in Peshawar on Monday where they were awarded with special cash prizes and commendation certificates.

 

Girl students protest lack of teachers

KOHAT: The students of a state-run girls school on Monday staged a protest against the lack of teachers and asked the provincial government and the Education Department to fill the vacant positions. The students of the Government Girls Primary School in Khushal Garh gathered outside the school building and staged the protest.
