Walis of Swat remembered for pro-people policies
MINGORA: A condolence reference was held here on Sunday to remember late rulers of Swat, Miangul Abdul Wadud and Miangul Abdul Haq Jehanzeb.
The event was held at the Wadoodia Hall and attended by the former royal family’s members and elders from Swat, Buner and Shangla.
The speakers lauded the services of the late Swat rulers who had provided basic facilities, including healthcare and education to the people and laid a network of roads in the erstwhile Swat state. They said the Miangul family was still loved by the people of the area due to the pro-people initiatives of its members who ruled Swat and made it a welfare state. The speakers said that Swat would have been the most developed area in the country had it been given autonomous status. Miangul Shahryar Amirzeb said his family has a strong bond with the people. He lamented that no government and local elected representatives undertook development projects in the area after its merger with Pakistan. “Swat and its people have suffered a lot, but it hasn’t received the attention they deserved,” remarked Miangul Shahryar Amirzeb, who is member of the former royal family and is a politician. A number of poets recited poems to pay tribute to the late Swat rulers Miangul Abdul Wadood and Miangul Abdul Haq Jehanzeb.
