CM for unity to make Pakistan a haven of peace

LAHORE

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that collective efforts are needed to foil the nefarious designs of anti-state elements during Muharram-ul-Haram.

He said present situation demands emergent measures; therefore, the whole nation should display national solidarity, brotherhood and tolerance by setting aside mutual differences.

He said effective measures should be taken for maintaining religious harmony while indiscriminate action should be taken over objectionable speeches, publication and distribution of literature based on religious hatred and violation of code of conduct and Amplifier Act.

According to a handout, the CM said this while presiding over a meeting of provincial cabinet committee on law and order, here Friday. The meeting reviewed in detail security plan evolved for ensuring peace and harmony during Muharram-ul-Haram.

The chief minister said there was a need for maintaining unity for making Pakistan a haven of peace and foiling nefarious designs of the enemy. He said there was a need to make even better security arrangements this year for Muharram-ul-Haram than the previous years and all available resources should be utilised for this purpose. He said law enforcement agencies should maintain a close coordination and remain fully alert to meet any untoward situation.

He said modern technology should be fully utilised for implementation and monitoring of the security plan while a watchful eye should be kept on the activities of anti-social elements. He said senior police officers would be responsible for implementation of security plan and maintenance of law and order in their respective areas and they will have to make strenuous efforts for this purpose. He said that police officers should remain in the field and keep a vigilant eye on the performance of the force. He said cabinet committee should monitor the measures for the implementation of security plan and protection of life and property of the masses in the province. He said hours fixed for Majalis and processions should be strictly observed.

The chief minister said best food should be served on time to police personnel performing their duty for maintaining peace and soft drinks should also be provided in accordance with weather condition. He directed Inspector General Police to ensure implementation of his instructions throughout the province and no complaint should be received in this regard. 

Safe City: Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of Punjab Safe Cities Authority, which reviewed the progress on Safe City project and other matters.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said Safe City project was of vital importance for protection of life and property of people, maintenance of peace and elimination of crime. He said Safe City project would help to achieve the goal of a safe, peaceful and prosperous Punjab and directed that this splendid public welfare project should be implemented speedily in a professional manner so that the targets fixed for this purpose could be achieved in time.
