LAHORE
Most of the schoolteachers in the provincial metropolis observed World Teachers’ Day as 'Black Day' in protest against, what they termed, Punjab government’s anti-education and anti-teacher policies. On the call of United Teachers Council (UTC), the teachers wore armbands as a symbol of protest observing that the schoolteachers were upset as the Schools Department had badly failed to address their genuine concerns, including upgrade of scales and growing fear among the teachers vis-à-vis handing over public schools to private sector.
