New sanitation company for Sialkot
From Our Correspondent
SIALKOT: The Water and Sanitation Solid State (WSSS) will replace the Sialkot Waste Management Company (SWMC), said TMA Administrator Umar Sher Chattha.
Talking to newsmen here on Friday, he said that the SWMC was launched at a cost of billions of rupees by the Punjab government in March 2014, but its performance remained unsatisfactory. Now, a new company, the WSSS, was being launched in November this year with the cooperation of the Asian Development Bank, the Local Government and the TMA to address sewerage, sanitation and other related issues in Sialkot, he added. He said that the WSSS would also be launched in Sahiwal at a cost of Rs 13 billion.
SWMC Managing Director Muhammad Sheraz Warraich welcomed the WSSS launching and said that closure of the SWMC would not cause any financial loss to the government as most of its employees, who originally belonged to the TMA, were hired on contract basis. After closure of the SWMC, they would be sent back to the TMA from where the WSSS could hire their services again, he added. He said that all vehicles and machinery would also be handed over to the WSSS.
