Progressive Panel sweeps FGCTA polls

The Progressive Panel has swept the elections of the Federal Government College Teachers Association, an apolitical body of professors and lecturers, the year 2016-17.

Among the running were two panels, including FG Custodians Panel and Progressive Panel. Some independent candidates were also in the arena.

The professors and lecturers participated in the elections but the teaching staff members working on deputation, contractual or daily-wage basis weren’t eligible to be part of the electoral exercise.

According to the unofficial election results, Sagheer Ahmad Mirani of Progressive Panel was elected the FGCTA president for the next one-year term by bagging 254 votes against Inam Elahi of FG Custodians Panel (100 votes) and independents Muhammad Ali Sheikh (77 votes) and Muhammad Akram (74 votes); Shazia Shakeel of Progressive Panel senior vice president (312 votes) against Tasneem Akhtar Mir of FG Custodians Panel (184 votes); Shahida Parveen of Progressive Panel vice president (277 votes) against Aisha Shaukat of FG Custodians Panel (221); Muhammad Habibullah of Progressive Panel general secretary (335 votes) against Muhammad Ashraf of FG Custodians Panel (145 votes); Yasmeen Raza Shah of Progressive Panel joint secretary (310 votes) against Muhammad Akram of FG Custodians Panel (179 votes); Dr Nadeem Ahmad of Progressive Panel finance secretary (328 votes) against Arshad Ali of FG Custodians Panel (155 votes), and
Amir Ahmad Khan of Progressive Panel press secretary (331 votes) against Mehdi Hussain of FG Custodians Panel (159 votes).
