PC partners with UNWTO

Abu Dhabi awards new terminal

DUBAI: Abu Dhabi Ports has awarded China´s Cosco Shipping a 35-year concession to build and operate a new container terminal at Khalifa Port, the chief executive of the Abu Dhabi company told Reuters on Wednesday. The terminal is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2018, Mohamed Juma al-Shamisi said. It will have a capacity of 2.4 million twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs), with an option to increase that to 3.5 million TEUs, Shamisi added without giving a value for the investment.

       

CAP elects office-bearers

LAHORE: Constructors' Association of Pakistan (CAP) has elected Sikandar Hayat Khattak, unopposed as the chairman for 2016/17. Khattak has served CAP thrice previously as the chairman.

Afzal ur Rahman, has been elected as Senior Vice Chairman, Imran Abbas Awan, as Vice Chairman (Punjab), Farooq Azam Vice Chairman (Sindh) and Engr. Shahid Rafiq as Vice Chairman Islamabad Region unopposed.

CAP is the representative association of the construction sector in the country interacting with national and international agencies for resolution of issues and improvement of project delivery system in the country.

Addressing the annual general meeting (AGM) of the association, Khattak said that construction was the largest sector of Pakistan's economy after agriculture, with the gross output about 10 percent of GDP which made it larger than the textile sector.

He vowed to make Constructors Association of Pakistan a dynamic organisation worthy of the size of the industry. He said the association should play an important role in developing project management expertise in the country to help on time completion of projects while improving standard compliance.

 

Admore invests in storage facilities

KARACHI: Admore has extensively upgraded its Machike storage terminal in Punjab and is currently building its own storage facility at Daulatpur, Sindh to cater to the retail network requirements in Upper Sindh and Balochistan.

According to a statement issued by the company, the Daulatpur facility is scheduled for completion by January 31, 2017 and the facility will have storage capacity of 3,200 metric tons with additional expansion capacity in the future.

Admore has also undertaken major capital expenditure, with significant investments to simultaneously build its storage capacity in the North and South regions of the country. The company has also plans in place to build a storage facility at Shikarpur, Sindh, with a storage capacity of 3,200 metric tons, the land for which has already been acquired. In addition, development of storage facilities at Thaliyan, Sahiwal, Mehmood kot in Punjab and Tarru jabba in KPK are also part of Admore’s long term business plans.
