Ardeshir Cowasjee once said: “We must know where we deceived ourselves to avoid being deceived again….Russia is one of our closest neighbours…And (could) be an important partner.” These are true words as the US, one of our closese allies, has deceived us on many occasions. Russian forces have arrived in Pakistan for the first-ever joint military exercise between Pakistan and Russia (from September 24 to October 10). This reflects increased cooperation between the two countries. Earlier, in July 2015, COAS General Raheel Sharif paid a visit to Russia where he was given a guard of honour. Pakistan and Russia signed a landmark defence deal in 2015. The fastest changing situation shows that the enemies of the past are becoming the friends of today. Russia’s long-time ally India has moved towards the US. In this changing scenario of world, Pakistan should further its ties with Russia.
