15 shops robbed in Urdu Bazaar

Fifteen shops were robbed in Urdu Bazaar on MA Jinnah Road in the wee hours of Saturday.

The thieves broke into the shops and made off with million of rupees.

Police have registered an FIR and booked a security guard for preliminary investigation.

This is the second such robbery this month.

On September 9, 22 shops were looted at Tibet Centre during the wee hours of the day.

SHO Aurangzeb Khattak, the robbers, who were carrying cutters with them, overpowered the watchman and broke the locks of the shops.

They had taken away around Rs600,000.  The police had later arrested four Afghan nationals in connection with the case.

A few months ago, five shops were robbed at Tibet Centre.

After the first robbery, plans were discussed to install CCTV cameras inside and around the market during a meeting between police officials and market traders, however, no steps were taken to materialise the plan. 

SHO Aurangzeb Khattak said the market traders had assured the police of installing CCTV cameras but not s single camera was installed by them till to date. 

Sindh Inspector General of Police A D Khowaja had also taken notice of the September 9 robbery and ordered the immediate arrest of the culprits.  According to the spokesman for the Sindh Police, he also sought a report of the robbery from DIG South Azad Khan.
