M/S HR Metrics, in collaboration with the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), announced the institution of the Dr Ishrat Hussain Human Resources Scholarship Award at a seminar held at a hotel on Tuesday afternoon.

The scholarship award, which will be presented by the SHRM-SCP, is titled “Certification scholarship for excellence in the HR profession”.

The scholarship will lead to the certification of personnel in the field of human resources.

This was announced by Zahid Ali Mubarik, CEO of HR Metrics and president of SHRM, Pakistan Forum, while speaking at the seminar titled “Strategic expectations from HR leaders in the organisation”.

A similar award was announced in the name of noted scientist Dr Ataur Rehman.

This was in recognition of the services rendered by Dr Hussain in the financial fields. He served as the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan and later as the dean of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi University.

There was also a short TV clip presentation in which he was shown saying: “I have always emphasised the dictum, ‘the right man for the right job’. It is the human resource that is the most precious capital.

The world is changing from a financial economy to a knowledge economy, where the human resource will be critical.

Our productivity is very low because we have ignored the human resource.”

Faiza Tariq Qureshi, assistant director of the SHRM, said that the SHRM, founded in 1980, had 2,000 members spread over 180 countries.

She said that 4,500 HR professionals were being certified. HR Metrics and the SHRM, she said, shared a common ground in workplace management.

Zahid Ali Mubarik said HR was now moving towards standardization and it should be able to groom people to provide management strategies. He said that they were looking forward to the setting up of such an institute in Pakistan.

Executives of various companies, mostly multinationals, narrated their experiences and their proposed strategies during a panel discussion and later during a question-answer session.
